WebEye telematics service provider activated its 70.000th endpoint
Fót, 15th July 2019 – WebEye Telematics Zrt. arrived to another milestone just a little over one year after connecting the 60.000th endpoint, namely the market leader telematics service provider of the region installed successfully its 70.000th satellite vehicle tracking device at the end of June. The continuous development of its services and the cancelling of the initial one-time fee are the reasons for this exceptionally fast growth. The company followed the changes in consumer trends, and that is why WebEye recently introduced new tariff packages with fixed monthly fees, which focus expressly on service and data based operation.
The 10.000th vehicle was welcomed in the fleet of WebEye in its fifth year of operation, in 2006. The first representatives of today’s modern telematics systems, the satellite vehicle trackers, were growing by leaps and bounds in those times. So, within another four years, the number of vehicles making use of Hungarian developed services of WebEye more than doubled itself by 2010. While new technologies and the strong customer demand provided the growth in the first years, the wealth of services offered and the new flexible business model set the course of innovation in the new decade. Thanks to the regional expansion, WebEye became available in ten countries at that time, and the company launched its e-Tachograph solution in 2013, making administration of driving times significantly easier. By joining to the Hungarian electronic toll collect system and expanding its international sales network, the company reached its 40.000th active endpoint (the endpoint is the telematics gateway built into the vehicle) in 2014. The 50.000th activation, which was the first significant milestone, happened in 2015. This means that the company increased the number of vehicles “under its supervision” fivefin barely one decade. In the same year, the WebEye Driving Style service was also launched. Thanks in large part to this driving style evaluation, our customers saved already 12,3 million litres of fuel in the span of 2,4 billion kilometres by this service – just in the last four years.
Answers to changed user needs
The booming development in the last few years is the result of our innovative solutions as well as the flexibility demonstrated by following the changing trends and user requirements. The calculable costs became fundamental for the hauliers as the competition sharpens in the industry. One good example for this: the commercial vehicle dealers usually offer the financing of heavy trucks with buy-back warranty, so the operators know exactly what amount they can expect for their vehicle at the end of the term. Similarly, the hauliers opt for maintenance contracts in a higher and higher rate, with which the operational costs of vehicles can be planned exactly. They expand these to cover also to the superstructure, the semi-trailer and/or the tyres in many cases to secure themselves against unexpected costs as much as possible. Many hauliers choose long term rental solutions to cover their transport needs temporarily or permanently, so in this way only one invoice covers almost all the costs related to the vehicles.
As these examples show, there is higher and higher demand from customers for making the costs transparent and predictable. The reason for this is very simple, to maintain their competitiveness they must decrease their expenses by all possible means. These very same arguments generated the demands for simplifying the payment constructions of telematics services as well for that the telematics services should be adjusted to the up-to-date interpretation of the term “service”. Telematics services are the best tools for recognizing hidden costs and unpreferable effects – so these are the essential tools for decreasing costs.
However, the expenses arising from purchasing the on-board units and accessories for these systems, as well as the delivery and installation costs kept away many logistic players from using these devices in the past. Furthermore, the one-time cost meant a significant initial expense for larger fleets in the case of many dozens of new vehicles. A simple everyday comparison: the procedures of service providers related to initial expenses also changed in the field of internet subscriptions, for example the obligatory purchasing of modems was cancelled. This is the same reason why it became necessary to develop new structures for vehicle tracking services. WebEye changed its approach and business policy following the changed customer demands: the company removed the one-time fees in the case of its newly launched packages, so now the total range of its telematics services is available based on fixed, purely monthly fees. The customers can save up to 200.000 Hungarian forints (about XXX Euro) per vehicle – depending on the exact technical specification – with these new conditions in comparison with the former offers. This is an extremely positive change for companies operating smaller fleets – even only one vehicle. The significant initial costs of telematics services, which were often mandated by the transport buyers, affected their competitiveness in a disproportionately negative way. Furthermore, the former 24 months general device warranty was replaced by a continuous replacement and repair warranty, which is valid for the whole time of the service contract. So, the operators of both smaller and larger fleets can perform their main business activity – hauling their or their customers’ cargo – with proper insight. And they can optimise their performance continuously by the services of WebEye.
Telematics of the future
WebEye aims to fine-tune its telematics services in the coming years, and the company continues its effort on strengthening its regional market position, which now covers 12 countries. Furthermore, it makes the satellite vehicle tracking available also for new target groups: MyWebEye is specially designed for light commercial vehicles, and it can offer a new alternative for optimising the operational costs of commercial vehicles under 3,5 t GVW. The number of endpoints is expected to increase further thanks to the novelties and new developments, while WebEye will go on from milestone to milestone just like the vehicles of its customers.
